APPOINTMENT OF PAROCHIAL ADMINISTRATOR, HOLY CROSS PARISH

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, only last Saturday we celebrated the Requiem Mass for Fr Henry with Archbishop John. It was a beautiful occasion: simple, solemn and yet a joyous at the same time. It was a fitting way to commend Him to the Lord and to take our leave of him. Many thanks to all those who prepared the Liturgy and the hospitality afterwards.

Archbishop John is mindful that Fr Henry’s role as priest and pastor of Holy Cross needs to be filled. He has decided to appoint Fr Vincent Okon as the Parochial Administrator for the parish. Since Fr Henry’s health began to decline significantly last May Fr Vincent has carefully looked after your spiritual and pastoral lives. We are very grateful for his gentle service.

No doubt someone will ask for the difference is between a Parish Priest and a Parochial Administrator. Practically speaking nothing. It is legal distinction because Fr Vincent is a priest, generously on loan to us by his own bishop of the Diocese of Uyo in Nigeria. He will assume his duties from today and, in the not too distant future there is to be a Mass of Welcome in the parish, at which I shall preside, and in which he will be formally acknowledged in this new role. I look forward to meeting you all again on that occasion. With my prayers and good wishes for you all, in Jesus Christ Our Lord.

Canon Gerard Bradley, South West Area Episcopal Vicar

Hope in Adoration

As part of the Jubilee Year, Archbishop John is encouraging people to turn to the Lord Jesus in Eucharistic adoration and have their hopes “fulfilled by Christ”. The campaign, Hope in Adoration, will share testimonies from parish priests and laity throughout the year on how Eucharistic adoration has helped them build a closer relationship with the Lord Jesus. Resources will also be made available for free and there is a comprehensive list of times of Eucharistic adoration in parishes across the Archdiocese. Find out more at rcaos.org.uk/hopeinadoration
