{"id":29,"date":"2015-04-27T12:04:08","date_gmt":"2015-04-27T11:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.holycrosscarshalton.co.uk\/?page_id=29"},"modified":"2024-05-08T10:18:27","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T09:18:27","slug":"christian-formation-work","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/holycrosscarshalton.co.uk\/?page_id=29","title":{"rendered":"Ministries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Altar Servers<a href=\"https:\/\/www.holycrosscarshalton.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/alter.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-290 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holycrosscarshalton.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/alter.jpeg\" alt=\"alter\" width=\"89\" height=\"158\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are a number of Altar Servers assisting at different Masses in Holy Cross Church.\u00a0 Parents can approach Father after their children have received First Communion to ask whether their children can receive training to become Altar Servers. \u00a0Usually around September \/ October children will attend training consisting of up to three one-hour sessions after school in the Church.\u00a0 They can then attend and serve at the Mass most convenient for them and are allocated tasks on a monthly rota basis.\u00a0 On the Feast of St Stephen (Boxing Day) after a year&#8217;s probation, servers are enrolled in the Guild of St Stephen and given a Bronze medal with a red cord, signifying St Stephen was a Martyr, also shown on the medal by the Crown. After 10 years of distinguished service a silver medal is presented with a red cord and a gold medal again with a red cord, after 50 years of distinguished service.<\/p>\n<p><em>For more information please\u00a0 use the contact form.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>===================================================<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Catechetical Ministry<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our catechists number about fifty in all and help in sacramental preparation of baptism, first communion, confirmation, R.C.I.A. and children&#8217;s liturgy.<\/p>\n<p>===================================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist<a href=\"https:\/\/www.holycrosscarshalton.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/holy-cross1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-209 size-full alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holycrosscarshalton.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/holy-cross1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"219\" height=\"123\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have fifty Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist covering five Sunday Masses with Holy Communion under both kinds; in addition a number of these Ministers take Holy Communion to the sick and housebound after the Sunday morning Masses and\/or during the week. \u00a0Parishioners are invited to become Extraordinary Ministers at the invitation of the Parish Priest and are commissioned by the Bishop or his representative at either St George\u2019s Cathedral or Aylesford Priory.\u00a0 They renew their commitment to the Parish once a year.<\/p>\n<p><em>If you would like to be considered and train for this ministry please use the contact form<\/em><\/p>\n<p>===================================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading Ministry<a href=\"https:\/\/www.holycrosscarshalton.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Bibles001.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-286 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holycrosscarshalton.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Bibles001.gif\" alt=\"Bibles001\" width=\"128\" height=\"71\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At one time the priest who celebrated Mass would read everything and no other voice was heard in the Liturgy. \u00a0Now we have one reader for each reading at every one of the five Sunday Masses and we follow recommended practice and have an additional reader again for the Prayer of the Faithful; 15 readers every weekend.\u00a0 The more we are involved in the celebration, the more we realise and understand the nature of community and the importance of celebrating together as a community.<\/p>\n<p><em>If you would like to be a part of this ministry please use the contact form<\/em><\/p>\n<p>===================================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Children\u2019s Liturgy of the Word<a href=\"https:\/\/www.holycrosscarshalton.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Children0051.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-280 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holycrosscarshalton.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Children0051-300x179.gif\" alt=\"Children005\" width=\"156\" height=\"93\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Children\u2019s Liturgy takes place during the Celebration of the Word at the Sunday 9.30 am Mass within term time. The sessions are based on <em>The Complete Children\u2019s Liturgy Book<\/em> by Katie Thompson.
